Carbon Dioxide Embolism During Laparoscopic Right Hepatectomy: A Case Report

چکیده
Complications of laparoscopic surgery include carbon dioxide (CO2) embolism, primarily caused by the entry CO2 gas into blood vessels or solid organs. If significant clinical symptoms occur, timely intervention is crucial as it can be life-threatening. We report a case embolism during right hepatectomy. The patient was 37-year-old male with no history liver kidney dysfunction. During procedure, there were two episodes oxygen desaturation (SpO2), and second episode accompanied drop in pressure an increase heart rate. However, sudden decrease end-tidal partial (ETCO2). Simultaneously, grinding murmur auscultated precordial area, foamy aspirated from internal jugular vein catheter. This article describes provides summary its causes, manifestations, diagnosis, treatment. It hoped that this will contribute to recognition management such cases, thereby preventing any potential adverse outcomes for patients.

[Carbon dioxide embolism during laparoscopic surgery: case report.].
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Carbon dioxide gas embolism is an uncommon but potentially lethal complication of laparoscopic surgery. Our report aimed at describing a case of pulmonary carbon dioxide embolism with favorable evolution. CASE REPORT Hypertensive patient was submitted to laparoscopic surgery under general anesthesia due to cholelithiasis. After 150 minutes of pneumoperitoneum, patien...
متن کاملCarbon Dioxide Embolism during Laparoscopic Surgery
Clinically significant carbon dioxide embolism is a rare but potentially fatal complication of anesthesia administered during laparoscopic surgery. Its most common cause is inadvertent injection of carbon dioxide into a large vein, artery or solid organ. This error usually occurs during or shortly after insufflation of carbon dioxide into the body cavity, but may result from direct intravascula...
متن کاملParadoxical carbon dioxide embolism during laparoscopic cholecystectomy as a cause of cardiac arrest and neurologic sequelae: a case report
An 81-year-old male patient was scheduled for a laparoscopic cholecystectomy due to acute cholecystitis. About 50 minutes into the operation, the arterial blood pressure suddenly decreased and ventricular fibrillation appeared on the electrocardiography. The patient received cardiopulmonary resuscitation and recovered a normal vital sign. We suspected a carbon dioxide embolism as the middle hep...
متن کاملCardiac arrest associated with carbon dioxide gas embolism during laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer and liver metastasis -A case report-
Clinically apparent carbon dioxide (CO(2)) gas embolism is uncommon, but it may be a potentially lethal complication if it occurs. We describe a 40-year-old woman who suffered a CO(2) gas embolism with cardiac arrest during laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer and liver metastasis. Intra-abdominal pressure was controlled to less than 15 mmHg during CO(2) gas pneumoperitoneum. The right he...
متن کاملRandomized clinical trial comparing the effects of sevoflurane and propofol on carbon dioxide embolism during pneumoperitoneum in laparoscopic hepatectomy
Laparoscopic hepatectomy carries a high risk of gas embolism due to the extensive hepatic transection plane and large hepatic vena cava. Here, we compared the influence of inhaled and intravenous anesthetics on gas embolism during laparoscopic hepatectomy. Fifty patients undergoing laparoscopic hepatectomy were divided into two groups to receive sevoflurane anesthesia (group S, n = 25) or intra...
